Sexuality education in primary school
Since a couple of years we have developed a teaching package Relationship & Sexuality for primary schools. The teaching package addresses all kinds of relevant topics like:
- body image
- self esteem
- body changes during puberty
- falling in love
- building up friendships
- influences of the media
- family planning
- sexual risks and consequences
- sexual coercion and empowerment in an age appropriate way.
Every year during Spring a lot of primary schools, in cooperation with the local public health centres, are stimulated and supported to pay structural attention to sexuality education. This national campaign is called the 'Week of Spring Fever'. Over 1,500 primary schools use this teaching package. Since 2009 we started a study to measure the effectiveness of the teaching package in upper primary classes.
