History

In 1999 NISSO (1967) and the Rutgers Foundation (1969) joined forces and decided upon a merger between the two organisations. The new organisation was to be called the Rutgers Nisso Groep. Soon it turned out that the part of the Rutgers Foundation which provided services, sexual education and family planning within the Rutgers Houses was having financial difficulties. These seven remaining Rutgers Houses were therefore taken over by the clinics for sexual and reproductive health and family planning.

What remained was an organisation which developed into an expert centre on sexuality. We now employ fifty people - comprising professional scholars, consultants and management and clerical staff. Our core business is academic research, innovation and development of new products, information and documentation.

We used to primarily aim at national activities. However, we also comprise an international department targeting young people, and intend to merge with World Population Foundation, an organisation that solely works internationally.
